My Vegan Competition Journey: A Few Hours From Being On Stage!

My experience this year has been completely different than last year…like night and day. Obviously there is a learning curve that you get from the first show. Then there was my complete overhaul of my diet. Obviously people should know that I am vegan by the title of this journey alone, but I have not really talked about my diet much. I really think that my dietary change is the main reason for my transformation.

I went vegan back in October for a 30 day trial period, but 30 days turned into a lifestyle change. Almost overnight, without even really trying, my body started to change. My belly started to lean out again, my energy level changed for the better, and my recovery time between workouts dramatically decreased…I was BEASTING in the gym! So many people think you need tons of meat or dairy based protein powders to go hard in the gym. And I was out to prove that there are other alternatives. That is why I knew then, that I wanted to do my next competition as a vegan.

When I started this journey, obviously I did some research. You have to because if you talk to most people, 94.7% of them tell you the same thing about the diet and supplement requirements…(yes, I made up that number.) I was pleasantly surprised to find that there are sites dedicated to vegan bodybuilders and other vegans out there that could help me. I was also very fortunate to find another vegan competitor in my area that happened to be doing the exact same show…SCORE! (The support has been invaluable.) What I also found was there are other people who wanted to know more about a vegan competition diet. Some people have been following my journey asking questions, and telling their own stories of discouragement at the non-vegans saying that this isn’t possible. Well, I don’t know how my journey will end come Saturday. But I do know that my training has not suffered due to the diet. Nor has my muscle just magically wilted away…so I say, YES this is possible…no matter the outcome on Saturday!

Stay tuned!! I will have competition pics posted on Monday!!
