What a Shopping Excursion looks like for me.
I know that when I tell people that I am vegan, they automatically start imagining what I am eating or how I am deprived. Many people just don’t realize that you can have a very fulfulling diet without animal products. Hey, I didn’t know that this way of eating was possible either. Just last year, I was smashing on tons of chicken and fish and dairy products, because I didn’t know any other way. But then I opened my eyes, did some research, AND started experimenting.
I speak alot about being vegan..in person, on my blog, and on Facebook & Twitter. I don’t think anyone should be confused as to how I eat. I also include pics…because if I didn’t people would think that I was starving myself or subsiding on grass and lettuce. I know people are checking my pics and posts and imagining that if I can do it, they can do it too…I get the emails and texts, so I know!
A recent text: “Ok lady. I’ve been seeing ur yummy food postings. U should email me some of ur favorite flavor enhancing ingredients, ie pumpkin seeds on salad, mmmmm.”
Ok, so the answer is NOT complicated at all. I don’t add a bunch of flavors. I allow the flavors of the food to come through. I cook mainly with salt, pepper, and olive oil. I also really like spicy stuff, so I use cayenne pepper and crushed red pepper. I recently discovered pumpkin seeds. They kinda remind me of sunflower seeds and they are awesome. On my salads, I mainly use apple cider vinegar for dressing. (I started that mainly because of my diet, but now real salad dressing is too thick.) A few other goodies that I have discovered: cilantro, basil, organic sauerkraut, coconut oil, sriracha Thai hot sauce, and giardiniera peppers.
