Featured FitChick: Courtney Bureau

It should be evident that obesity rates and health related issues running rampant in our country. (Nearly 70% of adults are overweight or obese and 47% of children (ages 2-19) are overwieght or obese.) But there are many people who are bucking this trend. I hear the many reasons/excuses why people can’t get to the gym (family obligations, work, time, etc), so I decided to highlight people that are focusing on their health in spite of all of that. SO INTRODUCING….

When did you fall in love with health and fitness? I fell in love with fitness, uhh from birth (just kidding). I want to say in high school. Maybe 10th grade year. I tried out for the track and field team. And after that first weight training session, I was hooked.

How has health and fitness changed your life? Health and fitness has changed my life totally, completely. I live my life around my lifestyle. From what I eat to what I do, it was changed for the better.

How are you able to balance your personal responsibilities (kids, spouse, other family obligations, work, hobbies, etc)? Balancing act! Ha! I’m the multitask monster. I’ve been doing it so long that its second nature.  Between, kids, school, work, homework, their homework, dogs, training, food preps, photo shoots, and helping others- I think it’s just in me. I have learned to make time and take advantage of every minute.  I’m always doing something. My motto, “doing it all and making it work”

How do you fit in workouts when your time is limited? It’s like that old saying, “You make time for the things you want, or what’s important to you.” Training is very important to me and so if it means squeezing in a workout between classes or some cardio while kids are at tutoring in the afternoons, you just make it work.

What was the biggest life adjustment on this journey? The biggest life adjustment for me is my son. Having a child with a disability (autism) has made me change my outlook on things.  I get my strength from him.

What is your favorite workout move? Favorite workout move! Crunches! Love them to death

What is your favorite clean meal? Clean treat? (Please share a recipe) Clean meal- for me it’s pretty simple: Grilled chicken breast, cup of spinach, and half of a sweet potato. This is on heavy rotation at my house. Clean Treat- Strawberry Greek yogurt

Can you offer any advice to other busy women on how to get started down a healthier path? Advice- Consistency is the key. Stick with it, stay on the path and never ever lose sight of your goals. Always have patience and believe in yourself when no one else will. Never make excuses, because there is always someone else out there just as busy as you and still getting it done.
