Today, I woke with a gameplan. I was gonna run 9 miles. This may not have been the best plan, considering I ran 6 miles yesterday, but I didn’t have time to run 9 yesterday. Today I had the time and the weather here in OKC is perfect for running…unlike Chicago (shiver at the thought of the approaching winter.) So I woke up, declared my goal on Facebook and Twitter (for accountability purposes) and headed to the running trail. Now this trail is so nice and peaceful tat I decided to switch from my normal Tupac Pandora station to a more mellow neo-soul Pandora station. Nature was putting me in a mellow mood today.
Each lap around the trail is a little over 3 miles. The 1st 3 miles were cool. My legs were slightly tired, but I kept pushing. I knew however that this was gonna be a lonnnggg run. The 2nd 3 miles was a little taxing. I was doing more walking this go ’round…but it was still more jogging than walking. By this time though, my time per mile was getting a little slower. I finished that lap and I kept thinking to myself, I will finish this 3rd lap no matter what…even if I am mainly walking it. And that is how that went. I started REALLY feeling the aches in the 3rd lap: the arch in my left foot was sore, the toes on my right foot were achy, my hamstrings started getting tight, the lactic acid was building in my legs, hunger pains were ceasing my belly, and my bluetooth headset died (ugh, no more music)…but I was almost there. More than 7 miles down, a little over 2 to go, but those seemed like the longest 2 miles. The bad thing about being on a trail is that once you are on there, you can’t get back without walking back. So I HAD to finish even if my body was resisting, so I just kept on marching to my finish line…THE CAR! I could see it within my line of vision…SUCCESS! After checking my Nike+ watch I saw that I actually did 9.7 miles, so I hit my goal and more!
Now to my reward: LUNCH! My friend told me about a raw vegan restaurant that they have here in OKC, Matthew Kenney, and I wanted to check it out. I didn’t realize that there was a vegan restaurant option out here, so I decided to give it try. I didn’t have a lunch buddy, so I made the trek by myself. And I am so glad that I did. Lunch was great! I started off with a fresh squeezed juice of carrots, apples, lemon, and ginger…yummy! And my meal was a raw lasagna with tomatoes and a macadamia nut “cheese”…tasty! And for dessert, tiramisu…delectable! This meal was so good that I want to go back tomorrow before I head back to Chicago. I am kinda bummed that I just learned about this place yesterday. But I am so happy that my home town is making a concerted effort to bring healthier options to the community. I just hope people give it a try.
